Villa Cruz seeks to question our relationships with object and myth that determine our approach to developing a spatial narrative, and is organized around the alter ego Jay Dela Cruz, stemming from my maiden name Dela Cruz.
Villa Cruz is an imagined place, and a construct of the mind. It manifests into reality through every facet of my practice; a weaving of my cultural heritage as a first generation Palestinian -Filipino Australian, their mythologies and stories reimagined and retold through object and image.
Assemblage and altercation aim to compartmentalise and flatten the production of Villa Cruz. Images are staged, destroyed, built in space, written, heard and are ever moving within themselves.
